Long-awaited 'Dragon Quest 9' video game hits shelves in Japan+

TOKYO, July 11 Kyodo -
The latest version of Square Enix Co.'s popular ''Dragon Quest'' video game
series finally hit the shelves in Japan on Saturday after its debut was
postponed three times from the originally planned 2007 launch date.
Fans flocked to stores to buy the role-playing game, titled ''Dragon Quest 9 --
Hoshizora no Mamoribito,'' which runs on the Nintendo DS hand-held console.
''I came here to buy the video game because Dragon Quest is a historic game
series,'' said a 22-year-old male student, who waited in line from Friday
afternoon in front of Shibuya Tsutaya software rental and sales store in
Tokyo's Shibuya shopping and entertainment district.
The latest version is priced at 5,980 yen.
It has been four years and eight months since the previous installment was
released in November 2004.
The Dragon Quest series first debuted in 1986 and cumulative shipments have
totaled about 47 million.
