89 PCT OF 671 INFLUENZA A(H1N1) PATIENTS FULLY RECOVERED




KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 (Bernama) -- Of the 671 patients confirmed to be
Influenza A(H1N1) cases in the country, 560 or 89 per cent have been given a
clean bill of health and discharged from their respective hospitals.

Health Director-General Dr Mohd Ismail Merican said only 111 patients were
still being treated for the disease at various hospitals.

"We are confident that with the cooperation of all parties involved
including affected individuals, the spread of influenza A(H1N1) in the country
can be checked in order to reduce its impact on the health of the people and the
nation's economy," he said in a statement here Saturday.

He said the Health Ministry would fine tune its countermeasures to combat
the disease from time to time so as to ensure its threat was reduced to the
barest minimum possible.

Meanwhile, as of 8am today, 44 new cases of influenza A(H1N1) were reported
in the country, 29 imported and 15 local transmissions.

This brings the cumulative cases to date to 671, 485 imported and 186 local
transmissions. No deaths have been reported so far in Malaysia.

Of the new cases, 34 involved Malaysians and 10 foreigners - Saudi Arabia,
Australia, Yemen and Britain (one each), United States (two ) and Indonesia
(four).

The World Health Organisation informed that as of 8am today, the total
number of cases of the disease stood at 105,304 (an increase of 1,374 cases
overnight) with 463 deaths from 143 countries.

The five countries with the highest number of deaths due to the disease are
Mexico (428), Peru (260), Thailand (207), Japan (127) and New Zealand (124).
