MALBATT Carries Out Sacrifice In Southern Lebanon, Strengthens Ties With Local Community

KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 (Bernama) -- In fulfilment of their religious duty and in embracing the spirit of sacrifice central to Hari Raya Aidiladha, the Malaysian Battalion (MALBATT) 850-12 carried out the korban (ritual animal sacrifice) at Marakah Camp in southern Lebanon Friday.

In a statement Saturday, MALBATT said the initiative also aimed to strengthen bilateral ties between the battalion and the local community, in line with the principles of Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC).

“This korban programme was not only an effort to fulfil our responsibility as Muslims during Aidiladha, but also a reflection of MALBATT’s ongoing commitment to fostering strong ties with the local community, in line with the spirit of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping mission.

“It symbolises obedience, sincerity and the spirit of sacrifice for the ummah (community), while expressing compassion and care for those in need,” the statement said.

A total of 48 goats were sacrificed during the korban, with 26 of them donated to the Takaful Marakah, a non-governmental organisation, as well as to representatives from Kafr Shuba to be distributed to underprivileged residents in the area.

The event also featured a communal cooking session by MALBATT personnel, culminating in a shared Aidiladha meal held in a spirit of gratitude and harmony.

The programme not only fostered camaraderie among the troops but also embodied the unity and teamwork of MALBATT 850-12.

“What made this programme especially meaningful was that personnel were directly involved in the sacrificial rites of the animals they offered,” it said.
