Bahrain delegation participates in country visit to China as part of UN anti-corruption review mechanism

Beijing, June 23 (BNA): Bahrain participated in a country review visit to China as part of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) implementation review mechanism. The Bahraini delegation, composed of government experts from the Ministry of Interior, contributed to assessing China’s adherence to the Convention, specifically in the areas of preventive measures and asset recovery.
Colonel Hussain Salman Mattar, Director of Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Interior and head of the delegation, emphasised that Bahrain’s participation reinforces its active role in supporting international frameworks that promote transparency and accountability. He noted that the Bahraini experts, working alongside their counterparts from Panama and under the supervision of the UNCAC Secretariat, reviewed China’s self-assessment and assessed its alignment with the Convention’s provisions.
The review aims to gauge how well national legal and institutional systems comply with the Convention, culminating in a joint report that outlines key practices, technical observations, and challenges. This process serves to enhance the global implementation of anti-corruption standards.
This visit forms part of the official UNCAC peer review process, in which participating countries are selected by lot to assess each other’s progress. Bahrain and Panama were tasked with evaluating China’s implementation of the Convention.
Bahrain’s role in this initiative reflects its dedication to promoting integrity, good governance, and the rule of law, underscoring its position as a responsible and engaged partner in international anti-corruption efforts.
