Vietnam Airlines honoured in Top 10 ESG companies in logistics sector

Hanoi, July 1 (VNA) – The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines has been honoured among the Top 10 ESG companies in Vietnam 2025 in the logistics sector and the Top 100 ESG companies in Vietnam 2025 at the ESG Vietnam Summit 2025, highlighting its ongoing efforts to meet environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.

A representative of Vietnam Airlines said that the airline has been persistently pursuing a sustainable development strategy for years, focusing on reducing emissions, modernising its fleet, improving operational processes, and optimising resource use. These efforts are exemplified through initiatives such as the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), the deployment of carbon control systems, and investments in a new generation of fuel-efficient fleet.

On May 27, 2024, Vietnam Airlines operated its first commercial flight using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on the route from Singapore to Hanoi. Building on this milestone, the airline launched six domestic flights powered by SAF on June 5 to celebrate World Environment Day. This was the first time SAF had been used simultaneously on both international and domestic routes in Vietnam, signalling a shift from pilot initiatives to mainstream application in sustainable aviation.

Beyond environmental sustainability, Vietnam Airlines also integrates social and governance criteria across its operations. The airline has maintained policies to ensure fair compensation, career development opportunities, and training for its employees, while promoting gender equality and safeguarding the rights of diverse workforce groups.

To further its commitment to environmental protection and ecosystem restoration, Vietnam Airlines partnered with e-wallet platform MoMo to launch an afforestation campaign in June 2024. The campaign aims to restore 50 hectares of forest in the Northwest region, helping to combat degradation and preserve natural resources for future generations.

According to the Vietnam Airlines representative, in the logistics sector, sustainable supply chain management, eco-friendly operational technologies, and ESG risk governance pose major challenges that not every enterprise is equipped to address. In its development strategy through 2030, the airline aims to enhance its internal ESG indicators, adopt international standards in ESG measurement and management tools, and work toward the national goal of carbon neutrality by 2050./.
