SEOUL, July 13 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's Yonhap News Agency Monday debuted its
mobile news service targeting wireless audiences seeking access to local and
foreign news content anytime and anywhere, a company official said.

Yonhap and SK Telecom Co., the country's No. 1 mobile carrier, have co-developed
the service, called "Yonhap News Phone," for months to provide a wide array of
news coverage ranging from politics, sports and entertainment to business stories
for consumers on the go, the official said.
The Yonhap News Phone has been optimized for touchphone models, including Samsung
Electronics Co.'s SCH-W750 and SCH-W770, and LG Electronics Co.'s SU910,
available to new subscribers of SK Telecom Co.
The service is the first of its kind in South Korea to bring news to mobile users
directly via standby screens on their cell phones.
The news screen provides one-click access to an assortment of news and related
photographs. Users can also customize the service to select news related to their
interests.
The screen is automatically updated every hour with fresh news or can be updated
whenever a user presses an "update" button.
The news service is available at a monthly fee of 5,000 won (US$4). For an
additional 1,000 won subscribers can receive breaking news in real time via text
message, the official said.
Future versions of the mobile news service will include weather forecasts, photo
galleries and video coverage as well as an English language option, he added.
