FINC Chief Executive participates in 31st Egmont Group Plenary Meeting

Luxembourg, July 13 (BNA): Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, the Chief Executive of Bahrain's Financial Intelligence National Centre (FINC), led Bahrain’s delegation to the 31st Egmont Group Plenary Meeting, held in Luxembourg from July 6 to 11, with the participation of representatives from 181 financial intelligence units (FIUs) worldwide.

The meeting coincided with the 30th anniversary of the Egmont Group. It focused on key strategic areas, including strengthening the operational independence and autonomy of FIUs to ensure their effectiveness, securing adequate resources to combat illicit financing, and reviewing the future developments of the Egmont Secure Web to guarantee the continued safe exchange of sensitive information.

During the meeting, the Egmont Group announced that June 9 of each year would be designated as International FIU Day, in recognition of the vital role these units play in combating financial crimes and promoting international transparency.

The Egmont Group expressed its appreciation to Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed for her contributions and dedicated efforts during her tenure as the Group’s Deputy Chair and Regional Representative for the MENA region. Her role significantly strengthened regional and international cooperation in fighting financial crimes and supported the Group’s goals of reinforcing the global network of FIUs.
