Malaysian Students Showcase Culture At Algeria Tourism Fair
NEW DELHI, July 15 (Bernama) -- A group of Malaysian students in Algeria captivated audiences at one of the country’s top tourism fairs by showcasing Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen people-to-people ties.
Malaysia’s presence at the International Tourism and Travel Exhibition (SITEV 2025), held in Algiers from July 12 to 15, was spearheaded by travel agency Youneed Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd, with strong support from the Malaysian Embassy and local Malaysian students.
The students, enrolled at various universities in Algeria, performed the traditional Malay art form Dikir Barat, drawing enthusiastic responses from visitors and offering a lively glimpse into Malaysia’s multicultural identity and artistic traditions.
"They staged a show featuring traditional Malay performance called Dikir Barat. The display of Malaysia’s vibrant heritage sparked a lot of interest among visitors," Malaysian ambassador to Algeria Rizany Irwan Muhamad Mazlan told Bernama on Tuesday.
A Malaysian Embassy delegation was present at the exhibition to demonstrate Malaysia's commitment to building stronger cultural ties with Algeria through cooperation in the tourism industry, Rizany said.
“We expect our participation in this event to enhance people-to-people linkages and generate more interest in Malaysia in Algeria. At the same time, we encourage Malaysians to learn about Algeria’s historical and cultural attractions as well as its fascinating natural landscape,” he said.
Youneed Travel & Tours, a Malaysian company, is exploring further opportunities to promote bilateral tourism between Malaysia and Algeria, the ambassador said.
The company seeks to encourage more Malaysians to explore Algeria’s rich cultural heritage and scenic landscapes, while also drawing Algerian travellers to experience Malaysia’s vibrant diversity and natural attractions.
Held under the theme “Travel Across Algeria: Enjoy Authentic Tourism and Ancient Civilisation”, SITEV 2025 attracted 320 exhibitors from 27 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America.
