Foreign Minister commends Supreme Council for Women’s role in advancing Bahraini women

Manama, Aug. 21 (BNA): Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee, commended the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) for its achievements over 24 years in institutional work and effective partnerships that have advanced the rights of Bahraini women and strengthened their leadership in political, diplomatic, and economic domains, under the comprehensive development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

The minister extended congratulations to His Majesty the King; His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister; and to Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Consort of His Majesty the King and President of the SCW, on the 24th anniversary of the council’s establishment as a national institution that has consolidated women’s presence and active participation in Bahrain’s sustainable national achievements.

Al Zayani emphasised that the establishment of the SCW marked a milestone in national achievements related to rights and development, built on principles of justice, equal opportunities, and gender balance, within a legislative system and modern policies aligned with the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women, the National Human Rights Plan, and Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030, in line with international conventions, including the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).

He expressed appreciation for the SCW’s role under the leadership of HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa in enhancing the distinguished status of Bahraini women locally, regionally, and internationally. He noted the council’s initiatives and innovative projects that have enriched political and democratic life, supported economic and social development, and advanced cooperation between the legislative and executive branches, government bodies, civil society, and the private sector.

The minister also highlighted the contributions of female diplomats in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Bahraini embassies and consulates abroad, where they hold leadership positions, as well as in regional and international organisations. He expressed confidence in their vital role during Bahrain’s upcoming membership in the UN Security Council for 2026–2027 and the UN Women Executive Board for 2026–2028, which will further support Bahrain’s contributions as an active partner in promoting peace, security, human rights, and sustainable development.

Minister Al Zayani reiterated that Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, the support of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and the follow up of the SCW, continues to advance Bahraini women from empowerment to partnership and leadership. He pointed to the launch of the third edition of the Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award for Women’s Empowerment in cooperation with UN Women, consolidating Bahrain’s international presence as a national model and a key partner in promoting global peace, security, and prosperity.
