The Minister of Foreign Affairs Receives An Official Invitation To Visit Malaysia

Baghdad / NINA /- Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein received today, Saturday, an official invitation to visit Malaysia in the near future.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that Hussein met in Baghdad with Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Rural and Regional Development Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The two sides discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation and ways to strengthen relations between Iraq and Malaysia.

The meeting reviewed the historical trajectory of Iraqi–Malaysian relations and underlined Iraq’s pivotal role in the region, particularly with regard to political issues concerning Islamic countries. Both sides stressed the importance of activating the work of the joint committee between the two countries and holding its meetings soon, as it represents the diplomatic framework that regulates bilateral cooperation.

They also emphasized the need to enhance coordination in international forums on issues of mutual concern, foremost among them the Palestinian cause. In addition, the discussions covered mechanisms to expand economic cooperation and increase Malaysian investment presence in Iraq, as well as the possibility of broadening opportunities for Iraqi students to study in Malaysia and providing the necessary facilities for them.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi extended an official invitation to Fuad Hussein to visit Kuala Lumpur, an invitation which Hussein welcomed, reaffirming Iraq’s commitment to continuing consultations and strengthening bilateral cooperation through joint committees./End
