Foreign Ministry, BTEA help 30 citizens return after travel agency failure abroad

Manama, Sep. 2 (BNA): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it secured the return of 30 Bahraini citizens, most of whom are families and children, after they faced an emergency situation abroad resulting from a local travel agency’s failure to meet its contractual obligations with a hotel.

Ambassador Ibrahim Mohammed Al Muslimani, Chief of Consular Services at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the ministry received a report about the incident and immediately coordinated with the Kingdom of Bahrain’s embassy in the concerned country to take the necessary steps, including providing assistance and ensuring the citizens’ return home the following day.

On its part, the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) emphasised that its tourism monitoring directorate took the legal measuresas per the tourism law to ensure compliance by tourism sector establishments. The unlicensed travel agency was closed immediately by the judicial officers, and its owner was referred to the Public Prosecution in accordance with applicable legislation and requirements of public interest. The BTEA indicated that the agency failed to meet its obligations, which has affected several citizens, in a clear violation of regulations and the Authority’s requirements.

Both the ministry and the BTEA urged citizens to verify the reliability and reputation of travel agencies, and to ensure they deal only with licensed and accredited companies to safeguard their rights and avoid such situations.

Furthermore, the Chief of Consular Services at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the safety and well-being of citizens are a top priority, highlighting that the follow-up centre operates 24 hours a day to manage any emergencies. Citizens may contact the centre at: (17227555).
