Saudi Arabia Commemorates International Literacy Day

Jeddah, September 08, 2025, SPA -- The Kingdom, represented by the Ministry of Education, joined the international community in celebrating International Literacy Day on September 8.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) established International Literacy Day in 1966 to unite global efforts focused on quality education and lifelong learning. The day also seeks to raise awareness of literacy as a fundamental human right and to strengthen initiatives combating illiteracy worldwide, given its strong links to poverty, unemployment, and low civic participation.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to providing lifelong learning opportunities by encouraging individuals to enroll in continuing education programs and participate in specialized courses that offer educational content tailored to learners’ needs.
The celebration of International Literacy Day encompasses a range of events and programs designed to raise awareness, promote education, and support literacy initiatives.
