Bahrain, Azerbaijan strengthen parliamentary ties

Baku, Sep. 7 (BNA):  As part of his official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sisi Al Buainain, Secretary-General of the Council of Representatives, met with Rustam Mahmudov, Deputy Chief Administrator of the Azerbaijan Parliament (Milli Meclis).  The meeting reviewed means to enhance institutional cooperation and strengthen coordination mechanisms between the two secretariats-general in support of joint parliamentary work.

 

The meetings included learning from the Azerbaijani experience in digital transformation and the development of information systems that support parliamentary work.  They also reviewed best practices in artificial intelligence and its application in serving the legislative and oversight process.  These efforts aim to enhance parliamentary performance and improve the services provided to members.

 

Al Sisi Al Buainain highlighted the deep-rooted Bahrain-Azerbaijan ties, noting that next year will mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, an important milestone to advance ties and strengthen parliamentary collaboration.

 

He commended the Milli Meclis for its experience in modernising the legislative and administrative system and emphasised the Council of Representatives’ commitment, under the presidency of Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, to exchanging expertise in ways that serve the shared interests of both peoples.

 

Al Sisi Al Buainain also met with Sabir Hajiyev, Head of the Bahrain-Azerbaijan Working Group, where they discussed parliamentary cooperation between the two sides, as well as means to develop consultation and joint coordination in regional and international forums.

 

During the meeting, both sides underscored that Bahraini-Azerbaijani relations are witnessing rapid growth with the support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Excellency Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, and by their commitment to advancing cooperation on all levels.

 

Hajiyev emphasised that the strength of relations between the two countries is based on the deep-rooted ties between the two leaderships, emphasising the importance of exchanging visits between the Council of Representatives and the Azerbaijan Parliament.

 

The Secretary-General of the Council of Representatives also met with Sameddin Asadov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan, and several ministry officials.  The meeting reviewed Azerbaijan’s advanced experience in digitalisation and smart transport, and explored means to apply this expertise to develop parliamentary digital infrastructure and support smart systems for decision-making and parliamentary work.

 

They also addressed mechanisms for employing innovative digital solutions to support parliamentary work and improve services provided to MPs, contributing to enhancing efficiency and keeping pace with global technological transformations.

 

Both sides highlighted the positive outcomes of this visit, which introduced a solid foundation for a new phase in the course of cooperation between Bahrain and Azerbaijan, and enhanced opportunities for strategic partnership between the two countries.
