Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan agree on water and energy balance until 2026

Bishkek, Sept. 9, 2025 /Kabar/. On September 7, the city of Cholpon-Ata hosted a meeting on energy cooperation.

The Ministry of Energy reported that a Protocol was signed between Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan on the supply of electricity until the spring of 2025–2026.

The main objective of the signed document is to determine the obligations of the parties to supply electricity from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan in the autumn-winter period for the conservation and rational use of water in the Toktogul reservoir.

In addition, the terms of electricity transit from Russia to Kyrgyzstan through the energy system of Kazakhstan and electricity transit from Turkmenistan to Kyrgyzstan through the energy system of Uzbekistan were agreed upon.

Speaking at the meeting, the minister of energy of Kyrgyzstan made a speech in which he noted that close cooperation with neighboring countries ensures energy security and stability.

“Through joint efforts, we will ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to our peoples, as well as strengthen energy security and stability in the region. In this regard, we expect that our Uzbek and Kazakh colleagues will adhere to the schedule of electricity supplies in accordance with the signed protocols,” said Minister Ibrayev.

In addition, a bilateral Protocol on the supply of electricity between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan was signed during the meeting.
