Palestinian President meets Arab ambassadors in London

London, Sep. 10 (BNA): Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Dean of the Arab Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Kingdom, hosted a reception in honour of His Excellency Mahmoud Abbas, President of the State of Palestine, and the accompanying delegation in London. The reception was attended by Arab ambassadors accredited to the UK, on the sidelines of HE President Abbas’s official visit to the UK.
HE President Abbas briefed the ambassadors on the latest developments in the Palestinian cause, the situation in Gaza and the West Bank, and his government’s international efforts to reach an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, protect civilians, and secure urgent humanitarian access. HE the Palestinian President also highlighted the Palestinian government’s efforts, with strong Arab backing, to end the war and achieve regional peace based on the two-state solution and international legitimacy.
HE President Abbas commended the Council of Arab Ambassadors in the UK for their outreach to British decision-makers, which contributed to the decision of the UK government to announce its intention to recognise the State of Palestine before the upcoming international peace conference in New York later this month.
On his part, Ambassador Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed, on behalf of the Arab ambassadors, reiterated the call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the lifting of all restrictions on humanitarian aid. He underlined the Arab position supporting an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, as the only path to a just and lasting solution, underlining continued support for efforts towards realising Palestinian statehood.
