Saudi Arabia Joins Arab World in Celebrating Arab Meteorology Day

Jeddah, September 15, 2025, SPA -- The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) joined other Arab states today in celebrating Arab Meteorology Day, marked annually on September 15, under the theme “Meteorology... for Human Safety and Global Sustainability.” The occasion underscores the vital link between meteorological services, the protection of lives and property, and the promotion of sustainable management of natural resources.
CEO of the NCM Dr. Ayman Ghulam said the chosen theme reflects the central role of meteorology in safeguarding communities through accurate monitoring, forecasting, and early warning systems that help mitigate the risks posed by severe weather and climate phenomena.
He added that meteorology has become an indispensable tool in supporting sustainability, as reliable climate data underpins key sectors such as water, agriculture, energy, transportation, and the environment. It also plays a critical role in shaping long-term strategies to adapt to climate change, enhance local sustainability, and ensure the optimal use of natural resources.
The Kingdom pioneered the initiative to establish Arab Meteorology Day, having submitted the proposal to the Arab Permanent Committee on Meteorology in 2019. The proposal was later endorsed by the Arab Forum for Meteorology and Media, which designated September 15 as the official day of recognition.
The celebration aims to unify efforts and goals across the Arab world in advancing this vital scientific field.
