Bahrain parliamentary group participates in APA permanent economic committee meeting

Manama, Sep. 15 (BNA): A delegation from Bahrain's parliamentary group participated in the Standing Committees on Economic and Sustainable Development of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain from September 14-16.

The delegation was led by Ahmed Sabah Al Salloom, Deputy Speaker of the APA and Chairman of its Standing Committee on Economic and Sustainable Development, with about 73 members from 17 countries taking part.

On the sidelines, the delegation said these meetings are an important opportunity to enhance constructive dialogue among Asian parliaments and discuss strategic issues affecting their peoples’ present and future, including sustainable economic progress, climate change, and social and developmental matters. These gatherings help build strong cooperation networks between legislative bodies and improve coordination mechanisms to address rising regional challenges in a spirit of integration and partnership.

The delegation noted that these meetings also allow Bahrain to showcase its advanced democratic progress, its key legislative role, and its achievements in developing its legislative system. This aligns with the legislative authority’s commitment to boosting regional parliamentary cooperation and exchanging expertise to support sustainable development and achieve stability and progress in Asia.

The meeting agenda included seven draft resolutions covering topics such as establishing an Asian energy market, environmental issues, sustaining economic efforts, supporting implementation of sustainable development goals, water and sanitation in Asian countries, climate finance initiatives, and the election of APA bureau members.

The Bahrain parliamentary delegation included Ahmed Sabah Al Salloom, Chairman of the committee; MP Bader Saleh Al Tamimi, MP Abdulhakim Mohammed Al Shino, Dr. Jameela Mohammed Redha Al Salman, Chairperson of the Services Committee of the Shura Council, Dr. Abdulaziz Hassan Abul, and Dr. Hani Ali Al Saati, both members of the Shura Council.
