Foreign ministers of Iran and Oman discuss bilateral ties, regional issues

New York, IRNA – Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Omani counterpart Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi have held talks in New York, the United States, discussing a host of issues from Iran’s nuclear program to Gaza.

Araghchi and Al Busaidi met on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) late Monday Tehran time.

They discussed Iran-Oman relations, as well as regional and international developments.

A main topic was the Gaza war and the necessity of ending the ongoing Israeli genocide there and bringing the regime’s officials to justice.

The two diplomats also discussed Iran’s nuclear issue, with Araghchi emphasizing the importance of European parties acting responsibly and acknowledging the value of Iran’s responsible approach to the issue.

Emphasizing the necessity of the West’s commitment to lifting the existing cruel sanctions against Iran, he warned against any miscalculation regarding the nuclear issue.

Araghchi and Al Busaidi met four days after the UN Security Council voted down a resolution aimed at halting the reimposition of the Council’s sanctions on Iran. That came more than a month after Britain, France, and Germany, which all are parties to 2015 Iran nuclear deal and are collectively known as E3, triggered the “snapback mechanism” that would restore the sanctions lifted under the deal.
