Malaysia Committed To Strengthening Regional Halal Ecosystem - Mohd Na’im

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 (Bernama) -- The MADANI Government, through the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), is committed to strengthening the regional halal ecosystem, including in Vietnam, by sharing expertise, standards and experience to provide added value to all parties.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar said his recent official visit to Vietnam allowed him to observe firsthand the efforts of industry players in the country to obtain and comply with halal certification standards.

“It was an honour for me to meet halal industry players and representatives of halal certification bodies in Vietnam. This meeting is solid proof of Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening our bilateral relations, particularly in the development of the halal industry.

“As we know, JAKIM has recognised four halal certification bodies in Vietnam. This recognition reflects Malaysia’s confidence in their integrity, transparency and accountability in ensuring the highest halal standards are upheld,” he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

Mohd Na’im said Malaysia’s economic relations with Vietnam remain strong, with the latter being Malaysia’s 11th largest trading partner.

“Through this close cooperation, I hope we can open more doors of opportunity and bring shared prosperity to the halal industry in this region,” he said.

According to Mohd Na’im, most ASEAN countries have strong industries and great potential to become major players in the global halal supply chain.

Therefore, he said developing the halal ecosystem would not only enhance industry competitiveness and penetrate new markets, but also ensure the production of products that are clean, safe and syariah-compliant for Muslim consumers.

He added that the global halal market, covering the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and lifestyle sectors, is projected to exceed USD3 trillion by 2028.
