Foreign Minister attends UN conference on Palestinian question and two-state solution

New York, Sept. 22 (BNA): Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in the High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, held at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The conference was co-chaired by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the French Republic, on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.

The conference was attended by a number of heads of state and government and foreign ministers from across the world to exchange views on resolving the Palestinian question and advancing the two-state solution as a pathway towards achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the region.

The conference opened with an address by French President Emmanuel Macron, in which he announced France’s recognition of the independent State of Palestine. President Macron said this recognition affirmed the dignity, history, and rights of the Palestinian people and did not undermine the rights or security of Israel. He stressed that it was the only way to achieve lasting peace, outlining a proposed peace plan that includes a strict mechanism to end the war, launch negotiations, and place Israeli-Palestinian peace as the foundation of a new regional security architecture in the Middle East.

His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, delivered a speech on behalf of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia. He emphasised that the two-state solution conference represented a historic opportunity to achieve peace. He added that France’s historic stance and the broad international support for adopting the New York Declaration on the settlement of the Palestinian question reflected the will of the international community to uphold the rights of the Palestinian people. He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s determination to continue its partnerships with France and other peace-supporting nations to end the war in Gaza and establish the Palestinian state.

The conference was attended by Ambassador Jamal Fares Al Ruwaei, Permanent Representative of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York; Ambassador Khalid Yousef Al Jalahma, Undersecretary for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Shaikh Abdullah bin Ali Al Khalifa, Director General of Bilateral Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Ambassador Saeed Abdulkhaliq Saeed, Head of the Coordination and Follow-up Sector at the Ministry.
