PM ARRIVES FOR NAM SUMMIT IN SHARM EL-SHEIKH
SHARM EL-SHEIKH (Egypt), July 15 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Razak and
wife Rosmah Mansor arrived Tuesday in Egypt's Red Sea resort city to attend the
15th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) which begins Wednesday.
Najib and Rosmah, who flew in by a special jet, were met on arrival at
the Sharm El-Sheikh international airport by Foreign Minister Anifah Aman,
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil and
several Malaysian officials.
The summit, themed "International Solidarity for Peace and Development",
will be opened by President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt who will officially take over
the chairmanship of the 118-member movement from Cuba for the next three years.
Najib's presence at the summit, where he is scheduled to deliver a speech,
will mark his first official involvement in NAM since becoming prime minister.
Malaysia held the chairmanship of NAM from 2003 to 2006.
While here, Najib is expected to hold bilateral talks with several of his
counterparts on the sidelines of the summit. He is also scheduled for exclusive
interviews with two Arab television channels, namely Al-Arabia and Nile TV, as
well as three journalists from the print media.
Meanwhile, Rosmah will be attending the inaugural NAM First Ladies Summit to
be held in conjunction with the NAM leaders summit. Rosmah will be accompanied
by Shahrizat.
Hosted by Suzanne Mubarak, the First Lady of Egypt, the summit will be
attended by 22 First Ladies from NAM member countries, with a general debate on
"The Role of Women in Crisis Management".
