Bahrain, Kuwait sign MoU to enhance health cooperation

Kuwait, Oct. 4 (BNA): On the sidelines of the 11th meeting of the Health Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the 88th (50th session) meeting of the GCC Health Ministers’ Council, Dr. Jaleela bint Al Sayed Jawad Hasan, Minister of Health, met with Dr. Ahmad Al Awadhi, Minister of Health of the State of Kuwait.

The meeting underscored the deep relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the State of Kuwait, and the growing cooperation across various domains, particularly in the health sector, in a way that serves shared interests and supports Gulf health integration.

The two sides discussed means to further develop bilateral health cooperation through the exchange of expertise and best practices in areas such as primary healthcare, disease prevention, and strengthening public health systems. They also discussed cooperation opportunities in health training, capacity development, and expanding partnerships in pharmaceuticals and medical technologies.

During the meeting, the two ministers signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance health cooperation between the two countries. The MoU aims to strengthen collaboration in preventive and curative health services, twin healthcare institutions, and unify stances on regional and international health issues. It also covers cooperation in public health programmes, combating communicable and non-communicable diseases, and sharing expertise in environmental health, climate change, and the One Health approach.

The MoU further includes cooperation in training, capacity building, and professional development of health workers, as well as the use of digital health and modern technologies. It promotes collaboration with the Kuwait Institute for Medical Specialisations, expanding training opportunities for Bahraini health professionals, and cooperation in telemedicine, health insurance systems, and comprehensive healthcare. It also supports school health development and pharmaceutical cooperation to ensure drug security.

The signing of the MoU reflects the shared keenness of both sides to consolidate their strategic partnership in the health field, contribute to sustainable health development, and enhance Gulf cooperation in addressing current and future health challenges.
