Malaysia, Pakistan Call For Concrete Action To End Suffering In Gaza
PUTRAJAYA, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Pakistan have jointly urged the international community to take concrete action to end the prolonged suffering of millions of Palestinians in Gaza.
Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said both nations stand united in calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities and for humanitarian access to Gaza to be restored without delay.
“I am, of course, extremely appreciative of Pakistan’s unwavering stance. In Doha, we jointly said that exhortations and declarations, without some concrete proposals, are not enough to end the misery of the millions of people in Gaza and Palestine,” he said at a joint press conference with visiting Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday.
Anwar said Malaysia views favourably the 20-point peace initiative proposed by United States President Donald Trump, while maintaining its reservations on certain aspects of it.
“At least it calls for a cessation of hostilities, to stop the insane bombings and killings by the Zionist Israeli regime in Gaza. This demand is now clearly echoed by Arab nations, Muslim-majority countries, and most of the countries in the world now,” he said.
Anwar also expressed hope that with the support and commitment of the United States and the broader international community, a sustainable peace could be achieved.
“Insya-Allah, we will achieve peace. But at the same time, access to humanitarian assistance is imminent.
“I can’t imagine that in 2025, after enduring so much hardship, you can still find people, women and babies being bombed and killed. This is totally insane.
“Our joint position in supporting a peace initiative will, hopefully, bring us closer to achieving durable and just peace,” he added.
Turning to South Asia, Anwar also commented on regional tensions between Pakistan and India, stressing the importance of cooperation in combating terrorism and promoting regional stability.
“It’s vital for this region to unite and collaborate on counter-terrorism,” he said.
