Thai PM Informs Trump on Border Pact Prerequisites

BANGKOK, Oct 9 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul publicly thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for offering to mediate the ongoing conflict with Cambodia but made it clear that any future peace pact is strictly conditional on Phnom Penh meeting four specific demands.
Speaking on Thursday, Anutin confirmed he would reply to President Trump, who had written expressing a desire for a negotiated settlement. While acknowledging Trump’s good intentions to foster peace in the region, Anutin stated that Thailand requires Cambodia first to comply with the four points agreed upon during past General Border Committee (GBC) meetings.
Anutin stressed that these demands are essential because they pose a direct threat to Thailand's security and the safety of its citizens.
The four preconditions Cambodia must fulfill are: the withdrawal of heavy weapons, the removal of landmines from the disputed area, a crackdown on cross-border scammer operations, and the proper legal management of the areas within Thai territory.
The Prime Minister reiterated that Thailand's commitment to peace hinges on Cambodia taking the first step to uphold these key security measures, a position he will communicate to Trump ahead of the upcoming ASEAN Summit in Malaysia. -819 (TNA)
