Najran Farms: Unique Harmony of Palm, Coffee Cultivation

Najran, October 09, 2025, SPA -- Najran embodies a unique agricultural model, successfully integrating palm tree and coffee cultivation in an environment rich with natural and climatic diversity. This distinctive combination thrives due to the region's unique terrain, moderate climate, and abundant water resources.
Najran is currently home to more than 120,000 coffee trees and 560,000 palm trees, which produce high-quality crops.
Executive Director of the Najran Coffee Cooperative Association Ali Al-Harith credits the region's success to its unique agricultural assets, particularly its elevation, which ranges between 1,200 and 1,400 meters above sea level. This altitude provides an ideal climate, complementing the rich soil and renewable surface water from rain. Al-Harith noted that this distinction enables Najran to successfully combine both palm and coffee crops in the same field.
Palm trees play a pivotal role by providing essential shade and protection for the coffee plants, contributing to moisture retention and improved water consumption efficiency in the semi-desert environment.
Coffee cultivation is a contemporary success story, supported by ambitious initiatives from the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture. The goal is to expand the number of Saudi coffee trees from the current 120,000 to one million by 2030, while focusing on sustainable agricultural methods.
The agricultural sector is progressing rapidly, thanks to ongoing government support, the development of irrigation, and the adoption of modern practices. Culturally, palm and coffee cultivation remain integral to Najran’s heritage, with families continuing to preserve traditional craftsmanship related to the date palm. This synergy between tradition and modern agriculture reinforces Najran's status as a unique agricultural and tourist destination, supporting Saudi Vision 2030's food security goals.
