Ayutthaya Flooding Submerges Nearly 50,000 Homes

BANGKOK, Oct 10 (TNA) - Flooding continues in Ayutthaya, with 46,709 homes across 11 districts of the central province remaining submerged.

Despite the Chao Phraya Dam maintaining a steady discharge rate of 2,300 cubic meters per second, residents along major rivers and canals remain anxious. The stable release rate is still deemed high for the already saturated area, leading to fears that more rainfall will worsen conditions.

The hardest-hit district is Bang Ban, where floodwaters have reached 2 to 3 meters high, cutting off communities. Many residents, especially those with elderly family members, are struggling with limited mobility, relying on single boats for access.

Beyond residences, the floods have damaged 58 village roads, 33 schools, 38 temples, and eight government offices.

Nationally, the disaster is widespread, with the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) reporting floods in 18 provinces, affecting 108,534 households and resulting in 19 fatalities. - 819 (TNA)
