Bahrain joins Switzerland, Mexico with proposals on recognition and enforcement of electronic arbitral awards to UNCITRAL Working Group II

Vienna, Oct. 14 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain continues to promote its vision of establishing modern and accessible dispute resolution mechanisms by submitting, in cooperation with Switzerland and Mexico, two important proposals to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) as part of the work of Working Group II on Dispute Settlement, regarding the recognition and enforcement of electronic arbitral awards.

Bahrain’s proposals focus on ensuring the reliable recognition and enforcement of electronic arbitral awards within global legal systems. The original proposal was prepared and submitted jointly by the delegations of Bahrain, Switzerland, and Mexico during the eighty-first session of the working group. It addressed key issues and sought to achieve a compromise formula that takes into account the different positions expressed by the delegates.

By resubmitting the proposal, the Kingdom confirms its continued leading role in simplifying and harmonising enforcement standards for electronic arbitral awards within the international community.

Professor Marike Patrani Paulsson, Secretary-General of the Council for International Dispute Resolution of Bahrain, is participating this week in the current session of Working Group II at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna, representing the Kingdom and its submitted proposals.

These proposals reflect Bahrain’s commitment to supporting global legal reform efforts, expanding international cooperation horizons, and providing practical recommendations that contribute to the digital transformation of arbitration, in partnership with relevant international bodies.
