Deadly Hair Dryer Prompts Crackdown

PATHUM THANI, Oct 15 (TNA) - Thai authorities seized over 30,000 uncertified hair dryers and more than 100,000 other non-standard electrical items in a warehouse raid, following the electrocution death of a 10-year-old girl using a cheap, faulty dryer.

Deputy Minister of Industry, Petty Officer First Class Yotsing Liamlert, led a DSI task force to the warehouse in Pathum Thani.

The operation was prompted by the recent death in Buriram of a 10-year-old girl, who was electrocuted by a dryer lacking mandatory industrial safety standard.

Officials said the raid uncovered a large number of uncertified products, including nail dryers and appliances, totaling over 100,000 items, believed to have been smuggled into Thailand via illegal crossings.

The warehouse owner claimed to be only the landlord, renting the space to a Thai tenant, and pledged full cooperation.

The tragic death of the girl, who was found holding the dryer after attempting to dry her hair, highlighted the dangers of the counterfeit goods.

Authorities are pursuing legal action against those responsible for distributing the hazardous products. - 819 (TNA)
