Thailand, U.S., South Korea Coordinate to Fight Scamming, Transnational Crime

BANGKOK, Oct 16 (TNA) - Thailand is coordinating constantly with the United States and South Korea to combat online scams and call centre gangs, the Thai Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Thursday, affirming commitment to fighting transnational crime.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nikorndej Balangkura said U.S. measures announced on Oct. 14 to combat online crime in Southeast Asia align with Thailand's existing efforts. He stressed that online fraud is a global issue linked to severe transnational crimes, including human trafficking, forced labour, and money laundering.

Nikorndej said Thailand has exchanged sensitive information with U.S. security agencies since early this year. He also highlighted that Thailand has been proactive in raising global awareness and has already assisted numerous non-Thai victims of scam operations.

While acknowledging South Korea's deployment of officials to assist its citizens, Nikorndej said cooperation has involved many nations and that future discussions with Seoul may seek additional solutions. He confirmed Thailand will continue efforts through bilateral and regional forums, including pushing the issue onto the ASEAN agenda. -819 (TNA)
