Bishkek, Oct.16, 2025 /Kabar/. October 16 is World Bread Day, one of the most delicious holidays, dedicated to a product that is indispensable to every nation in the world.

The holiday was established in 2006, initiated by the International Union of Bakers and Confectioners. The date was chosen for a reason: October 16, 1945, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) was founded. World Food Day is also celebrated on the same day.

The history of bread spans several millennia. According to researchers, the first bread products appeared around 8,000 years ago and were flatbreads made from grain and water, baked on hot stones. The first yeast-based varieties were produced in Ancient Egypt, where bread symbolized the sun and life. For a long time, white bread was considered the privilege of the nobility, while dark varieties were considered the food of the common people. Only in the 20th century, after the benefits of rye and whole-grain bread were recognized, did "black" bread become popular among the wealthy.

Prices Around the World

According to RIA Novosti, the average price of a 0.5 kg loaf of white wheat bread worldwide is approximately 138 rubles.
