Egyptian President Invites PM Anwar To Gaza Reconstruction Conference
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 (Bernama) -- Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has invited Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to attend the Gaza Reconstruction Conference in Egypt, as part of joint efforts to strengthen international support for the recovery of Gaza.
Anwar said the invitation was conveyed by El-Sisi during a phone conversation Saturday.
“In my telephone conversation with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi this afternoon, I was briefed on the latest developments regarding the Gaza peace plan.
“President El-Sisi informed me that current efforts are focused on identifying and retrieving the remains of Israeli hostages from Gaza, so that the Zionist regime will have no grounds to delay or obstruct the peace process being pursued.
“He also shared details of the second phase of the plan, which involves the reconstruction of Gaza, the need to safeguard the West Bank, and the implementation of the United Nations (UN) resolution on the establishment of an International Stabilisation Force (ISF),” he said in a Facebook post.
The Prime Minister said El-Sisi also expressed hope that US President Donald Trump’s visit to Malaysia in conjunction with next week’s ASEAN Summit would yield positive outcomes, given his crucial role in ensuring lasting peace in Gaza.
“We share the view on the need to continue safeguarding peace, strengthening humanitarian efforts, and coordinating aid missions for the Palestinian people who are still enduring prolonged suffering,” Anwar said.
