Health Minister holds bilateral meetings and attends side events during WHO Regional Committee session in Cairo

Cairo, Oct. 18 (BNA): Dr. Jaleela bint Al Sayed Jawad Hasan, Minister of Health, held a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the 72nd Session of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean, held in Cairo from October 15 to 17, 2025.


 

The Minister met with Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population of the Arab Republic of Egypt. They discussed means to enhance cooperation between the two countries in healthcare, medical training, technical exchange, and capacity building across various medical domains.


 

Dr. Hasan also met with Dr. Ibrahim Mahfouz Al Badour, Minister of Health of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, to explore collaboration in developing primary healthcare services, strengthening emergency preparedness, and advancing cooperation in precision medicine, genomics, and the pharmaceutical and medical industries.


 

In another meeting, she met with Oleg Salagay, Deputy Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, to discuss cooperation in genetic medicine, specialised medical training, and the exchange of expertise to enhance national capabilities and the efficiency of health systems.


 

The Minister attended several side events, including the ceremony for the State of Kuwait Prize for the Control of Cancer, Cardiovascular Diseases and Diabetes in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, held at Abdeen Palace Museum under the auspices of the WHO. The event recognised regional efforts to combat non-communicable diseases and strengthen prevention and treatment programmes.


 

She also participated in a high-level session on enhancing healthcare pathways to advance the Global Breast Cancer Initiative. Dr. Hasan emphasised that the Kingdom of Bahrain gives special attention to breast cancer prevention through early detection, awareness campaigns, and integrated treatment services. She highlighted that the National Cancer Registry and the Bahrain Genome Project are key initiatives supporting precision medicine and medical research, contributing to the improvement of healthcare quality.


 

As part of her visit, Dr. Hasan toured the Children’s Cancer Hospital 57357, where she was briefed on its pioneering model in providing specialised care and psychosocial support for children with cancer.
