Bahrain officially assumes presidency of Asian Parliamentary Assembly for 2026

Geneva, Oct. 19 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain officially assumed the presidency of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) during the coordination meeting held in Geneva, Switzerland, on the sidelines of the 151st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), attended by Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Division.
Speaker Al Musallam chaired the meeting, attended by several heads and representatives of Asian parliaments and legislative councils. He emphasised Bahrain’s commitment, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and with support from His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to enhancing constructive cooperation with Asian countries and achieving optimal investment in developmental paths.
The Speaker highlighted the meeting’s aim to enhance Asian parliamentary cooperation and expressed appreciation for Bahrain’s parliamentary group being entrusted with the APA presidency for 2026.
He commended Professor Dr. Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan, for her significant contributions during her presidency, enhancing Asian parliamentary cooperation and the Assembly’s role in international parliamentary forums.
Speaker Al Musallam underlined that Bahrain’s parliamentary group will continue advancing the Assembly’s role by opening broad cooperation and coordination for the benefit of Asian countries and peoples. He appreciated the commitment of parliaments and legislative councils to supporting Asian parliamentary cooperation and achieving the desired aspirations and goals.
Dr. Mohammad Reza Majidi, Secretary-General of APA, presented a detailed report on the Assembly’s recent activities and committee meetings on key Asian parliamentary issues.
Bahrain’s presidency was announced at the 15th General Assembly in February in Baku, Azerbaijan, with the Bahraini delegation led by Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of the Shura Council.
