Geneva, Oct. 19 (BNA): Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Division, participated in the 39th session of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), chaired by Shaikh Khalid bin Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of the Shura Council of the Sultanate of Oman, on the sidelines of the 151st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva, Switzerland.

Speaker Al Musallam said that the Palestinian cause will always remain a priority for the Kingdom of Bahrain under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

The Speaker noted that Bahrain, through its non-permanent membership in the Security Council for the next two years, will prioritise the Palestinian cause and Arab issues, reflecting its commitment to joint Arab action and awareness of increased responsibilities under current circumstances.

He said the session was convened amid developments in Gaza and Palestinian territories, with continued Arab efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people for just and comprehensive peace. He commended the initiative to hold the conference to adopt a unified Arab parliamentary position on the latest developments in the Arab world and the Palestinian cause.

Speaker Al Musallam stressed the Kingdom’s emphasis on peaceful solutions to crises in some Arab countries, ensuring their sovereignty, territorial unity and integrity, and protecting their peoples' rights to stability and sustainable development.

He extended congratulations on the success of the Sharm El Sheikh Summit for Peace regarding the Gaza ceasefire agreement, underlining Bahrain's unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and the establishment of their independent state according to the two-state solution, contributing to peace and stability in the region.

The Speaker condemned the Israeli attack on the State of Qatar as a violation of Qatari sovereignty and international law, emphasising full solidarity with Qatar in protecting its security, sovereignty and the safety of its citizens and residents.

He also expressed condolences to Qatar for the death of several diplomats from the Qatari delegation in the tragic incident in Sharm El Sheikh, the Arab Republic of Egypt.
