Bahraini parliamentary delegation participates in 216th IPU Governing Council session in Geneva

Geneva, Oct. 20 (BNA): A delegation from the Kingdom of Bahrain’s parliamentary group participated in the 216th session of the Governing Council of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), held in Geneva as part of the 151st IPU Assembly.
The Bahraini delegation was represented by Jamal Mohamed Fakhro, First Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council, MP Hassan Ibrahim Hassan, and MP Maryam Saleh Al Dhaen.
The delegation reviewed a report on activities and programmes implemented since the previous session held in Uzbekistan.
Martin Chungong, Secretary General of the IPU, presented an interim report on the Union’s events and activities, including its financial position and the draft budget for 2026. During his presentation, the IPU Secretary General commended Bahrain’s legislative authority for supporting the preparation of a study and guidance manual on the governance and regulation of artificial intelligence.
The Chairperson of the IPU’s Finance Committee also commended the constructive and growing cooperation between the Union and the King Hamad Global Center for Coexistence and Tolerance.
The Governing Council will continue its meetings on Thursday to complete its agenda, review the recommendations of the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament held in Geneva last July. They will also discuss upcoming parliamentary meetings, and hold elections for the Executive Committee, along with reports from other committees and specialised bodies of the IPU.
