Tokyo int'l toy show opens with 36,000 toys on display
+
TOKYO, July 16 Kyodo -
An international toy show opened in Tokyo on Thursday, displaying around 36,000
toys made by both Japanese and overseas manufacturers.
A total of 132 companies are taking part in the International Tokyo Toy Show
2009, which is being held for four days through Sunday -- the first two days
for toy makers and the rest for the general public -- at Tokyo Big Sight in
Koto Ward.
Among the toys being exhibited at the biggest trade fair of its kind in Japan
is a small device that projects an indoor firework display made by Sega Toys
Co.
Japan's toy market in fiscal 2008 shrank 1.2 percent from the previous year to
660 billion yen but the contraction was smaller than other markets, according
to the Japan Toy Association, the organizer of the trade fair.
The association expects the show to draw 160,000 visitors during its four-day run.
