Faris Al-Harma: 20 Years Restoring the Soul of Najdi Incense Burners and Doors

Riyadh, November 20, 2025, SPA -- In the space dedicated to traditional crafts at the Saudi International Handicrafts Week (Banan), visitors are drawn to a pavilion rich with the scent of history. Here, Faris Nayef Al-Harma, a master craftsman and maker of Najdi incense burners and doors, shares his journey. His work spans over two decades of practice, research, and reviving the essential symbols that define ancient Saudi architecture and heritage.
Al-Harma states that his relationship with crafts began as a hobby before turning into a professional path and a mission he passionately carries, despite his academic specialization in political science from King Saud University. After years of deep immersion in traditional arts, he has delivered over 500 instructional hours in cooperation with several entities, including the Royal Institute of Traditional Arts, and private organizations that have helped spread awareness and train a new generation of practitioners.
Al-Harma crafts incense burners using copper according to traditional methods while adding modern touches, ensuring the preservation of the Saudi national identity in every piece. His creativity was not limited to incense burners; he also excelled in making Najdi doors using natural colors and following inherited rules and principles. This craft was on the verge of extinction before empowerment programs, under the umbrella of Saudi Vision 2030, brought it back to life.
