Malaysia Steals The Show With Multiple Wins At 62nd Golden Horse Awards
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 23 (Bernama) -- Malaysian productions made a remarkable impression at the 62nd Golden Horse Awards held yesterday, securing multiple wins in what is regarded as one of the country’s most significant achievements at the prestigious film festival to date.
Among the highlights was the Chong Keat Aun-directed Mother Bhumi, which won three major awards: Best Original Film Song (Penny Dai), Best Cinematography (Liang Mingjia) and Best Actress, awarded to Chinese superstar Fan Bingbing.
Another Malaysian production, The Waves Will Carry Us, directed by Lau Kek Huat, added to the country’s success, with Chen Xuenzhen winning the Best Supporting Actress award.
Malaysia’s animation sector was also recognised, with Fly Studio Malaysia contributing to the sound effects work that clinched the Best Sound Effects award for the team of Gao Weiqi, Zhang Kaiqi and Lin Xianmin.
Established in 1962 in Taipei, the Golden Horse Awards are widely regarded as the highest honour in Chinese-language cinema, with nearly 600 submissions across feature films, documentaries and animation for this year’s edition.
In a Facebook post, Mother Bhumi director Chong described the opportunity to create the film and support Fan Bingbing’s artistic comeback as one of the most meaningful experiences of his career.
“I feel truly fortunate to have created Mother Bhumi and to accompany an actress as she begins a new chapter in her career. Congratulations to Fan Bingbing on winning Best Actress,” he said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching posted on Facebook that the achievement reflects how Malaysia’s film and television teams continue to stand strong on the international stage and bring honour to local creative works.
She also congratulated all Malaysian production teams for their accomplishments.
“Good news from the 62nd Golden Horse Awards! Team Malaysia won the most awards for the first time in history! Congratulations.
“Congratulations to the Malaysian film and television teams for continuing to stand on the international stage with strength and bring honour to local creations,” she posted.
