JKM Receives Malaysia Book Of Records Recognition For Child Protection Advocacy Programme

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 23 (Bernama) -- The Social Welfare Department (JKM) has received recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) after its Child Protection Advocacy Programme: Kasih Kanak-Kanak was listed as ‘The Largest Child Protection Advocacy Programme’ in the country.

Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Dr Noraini Ahmad said the recognition followed the programme surpassing its original target of 300 schools, reaching 337 schools and benefitting 128,148 children in 2024.

“The programme also encourages community engagement, particularly through the reporting of abuse cases via Talian Kasih 15999. This recognition is a strong testament to the commitment and dedication of all parties in strengthening child advocacy efforts.

“It reflects our shared commitment to enhancing protection and ensuring a safer future for every child in Malaysia,” she said at the National Children’s Day 2025 celebration here on Sunday.

Also present was Bandar Tun Razak, Member of Parliament and spouse of the Malaysian Prime Minister, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who officiated the event.

Noraini said the initiative underscores the continuous commitment of the ministry and JKM to strengthening the roles of schools and parents in protecting children from abuse, neglect and exploitation, in line with the Child Act 2001.

She said the programme’s effectiveness has been further enhanced through close cooperation with the Education Ministry, Royal Malaysia Police, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Child Protection Teams, making it a truly integrated effort.

At a press conference, Noraini said the programme recorded encouraging progress in 2025, with participation expanding to 517 schools and 44 Children Activity Centres (PAKK), exceeding the initial target of 30 centres.

She said nearly 62,000 children have benefited from the programme this year alone, excluding the 2024 total.
“We remain committed, through JKM, to strengthening community involvement to ensure children receive the proper protection they deserve and are safeguarded from abuse, neglect and exploitation,” she said.

This year’s National Children’s Day celebration, themed Hari Ini, Suaraku, featured the participation of 1,000 children nationwide.

Seven categories of awards were presented to outstanding children and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), including the Hang Tuah Medal, Children’s Special Award, Academic Excellence Award, Cultural and Arts Excellence Award, Persons with Disabilities Excellence Award, Sports Excellence Award and the Children NGO Special Award.

In her officiating speech, Dr Wan Azizah said all parties must play a role in ensuring the safety, well-being and future of children through policies that protect their rights and amplify their voices.

“We must recognise that children are the nation’s most valuable asset and the next generation of leaders. The theme Hari Ini, Suaraku symbolises our determination to ensure that every child can express their views, have their interests considered and have their rights respected.

“We must ensure children grow up well and able to fulfil their potential,” she said.
