Floodwaters Start to Recede in Southern Thailand, Revealing Damage and Supply Needs

SONGKHLA, Nov 26 (TNA) - Floodwaters are beginning to fall on major roads in Songkhla province, but low-lying communities remain submerged, revealing extensive damage and posing ongoing challenges for residents.

In a community where waters were still chest-high, one resident, trapped for two days, recounted standing in neck-high water after being unable to evacuate his sick mother. When a jet ski failed to reach her last night, the family floated her out this morning in a plastic basin and secured a ride on a passing military truck to the hospital.

From a bridge, railway tracks are visibly seen being damaged and distorted by the force of the current.

The receding water exposed severe vehicle damage, including a pickup truck stranded on the median of a main road and a sedan, possibly swept from a showroom, left in the street. Many vehicles remain submerged with only their roofs showing.

The main Prince of Songkla University (PSU) relief center, designed for 3,000, is currently sheltering over 5,000 evacuees. The most urgent needs at the crowded facility are paper plates, spoons, and cups for feeding the victims. -819 (TNA)
