PAKISTAN INVITES MALAYSIAN FIRMS TO PARTICIPATE IN DAM PROJECTS

KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 (Bernama) -- The Water and Power Development Authority
of Pakistan is inviting Malaysian companies to construct 32 small and medium
scale dams in the country, either alone or as joint ventures.

Companies having experience in building dams are encouraged to participate
in building 13 dams under phase one of the programme in various parts of the
country, the Pakistan High Commission said here Friday.

It said the dam reservoir structure will be financed and constructed by
private sponsors or investors via the due process of providing 80 percent of
the financing.

The land for the dams will be acquired and the cost to be financed by the
Pakistani government, the high commission said.

The land will be leased to private investors for 25 years, with the lease to
be extended on mutually agreed terms, it said.

Companies interested in the projects can contact the high commission's
commercial counsellor Majid Qureshi at Tel: 03-21648158.
