Foreign Minister meets Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister

New York, Jun. 1 (BNA):  Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, on the sidelines of their participation in the meetings of the UN Security Council.

 

They discussed the historical ties between Bahrain and Pakistan and means to further strengthen and develop them in support of the shared interests of the two countries.

 

They also reviewed regional developments and ongoing efforts by the Pakistani government through dialogue and diplomatic solutions to reach a lasting and peaceful settlement to the US-Iran conflict.  The two sides discussed the repercussions of Iran’s attacks on GCC countries and other regional states, as well as international efforts aimed at ending Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz to international navigation and addressing its impact on energy and food supplies, international trade and the global economy.

 

They also discussed means to further strengthen cooperation and coordination during their respective terms as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council regarding current regional and international challenges and issues under consideration by the Council.

 

The meeting was attended by Jamal Fares Al Ruwaie, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York; Saeed Abdulkhaleq Saeed, Chief of the Coordination and Follow-up Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and the accompanying delegation.
