Foreign Minister meets Chinese counterpart

New York, Jun. 1 (BNA): Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, on the sidelines of the UN Security Council meeting during China’s presidency of the Council.
The two sides affirmed the deep-rooted ties between the two countries and their shared commitment to further developing bilateral cooperation in support of mutual interests, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Excellency Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China.
They exchanged views on the latest regional developments, the repercussions of Iran’s attacks on the Kingdom of Bahrain, GCC countries and other regional states, the consequences of Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz on international navigation and the global economy, efforts to maintain regional security and stability, and progress in US-Iran negotiations aimed at reaching a lasting and peaceful settlement to the conflict and restoring peace and security to the region.
The two sides also discussed prospects for strengthening cooperation and coordination during their respective membership in the UN Security Council on regional and international issues under consideration by the Council, in addition to reviewing a number of matters of mutual interest.
The meeting was attended by Jamal Fares Al Ruwaie, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York; Saeed Abdulkhaleq Saeed, Chief of the Coordination and Follow-up Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and the accompanying delegation.
