Speaker commends HM King’s directives supporting Arab parliamentary cooperation, joint action
Manama, Jun. 3 (BNA): Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Division, chaired a coordination meeting ahead of the participation of the Bahraini parliamentary division delegation at the 39th Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), to be held remotely under a theme focused on strengthening Arab parliamentary cooperation to enhance regional stability and promote long-term sustainable development, on June 11.
Al Musallam commended the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in supporting and strengthening the path of joint Arab action, and contributing effectively to enhancing consultation and coordination between Arab councils and parliaments, in a manner that advances Arab issues, achieves security and stability, and consolidates development efforts in the region, which constitute a key pillar of Arab parliamentary work.
He affirmed the importance of the role of parliaments and legislative councils in supporting joint Arab action across all tracks, and in unifying the parliamentary position in condemning the brutal Iranian attacks, and in actively moving within regional and international parliamentary forums to stop the war and open the Strait of Hormuz as an international passage linked to the global economy, in addition to addressing violations of international charters, provisions of international law, and principles of good neighbourliness.
The meeting discussed the participation of the Bahraini Parliamentary Division delegation in the 39th meeting of the AIPU, the 42nd session of the Executive Committee of the Union, the Gulf coordination meeting, and the 47th meeting of the Association of Secretaries General of Arab Parliaments.
The agenda of the AIPU conference includes several key items, most notably: The transfer of the presidency, implementation of the resolutions of the 38th Conference, activities of the General Secretariat of the Union, the internal regulations of the Union, the internal rules of the Arab Group within the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the regulations governing the Arab Parliamentary Excellence Award, amendment of the voting mechanism on emergency items during the General Assembly of the IPU; the methodology for preparing concluding statements of AIPU, and the draft work programme and draft budget of the Union for 2026.
