Malaysia Poised To Become Regional Communications Training Centre Of Excellence
KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s Tun Abdul Razak Broadcasting and Information Institute (IPPTAR) needs to strengthen its learning ecosystem, strategic partnerships and talent development to become a regional centre of excellence for communications, broadcasting and information training.
Communications Ministry Secretary-General Abdul Halim Hamzah said IPPTAR has to move with the times as the communications and media industry undergoes rapid transformation driven by artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality technology, digital content creation and new media platforms.
"Our aspiration is to strengthen a more dynamic learning ecosystem, expand strategic collaborations with local and international institutions, and nurture talent capable of leading the digital media, broadcasting and strategic communications industries in the era of emerging technologies," he said.
He was speaking at the opening of IPPTAR Day 2026 here Saturday, which was attended by Communications Ministry Senior Undersecretary (Management) Aminurrahim Mohamed, IPPTAR Director Roslan Ariffin and Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) News Service Deputy Editor-in-Chief Mohd Shukri Ishak.
Abdul Halim said that over the past 55 years, IPPTAR has played a vital role as a premier training centre supporting the government's communications agenda through the development of highly skilled and quality human capital.
He said IPPTAR had also evolved from a broadcasting training institute providing specialised technical training for the Department of Broadcasting Malaysia into a training institution that also focuses on strategic communications for the Department of Information Malaysia under the Communications Ministry.
Abdul Halim said IPPTAR's excellence had attracted countries such as Cambodia and Timor-Leste to establish strategic training collaborations, further demonstrating its standing as a reference institution at the ASEAN level.
According to him, strategic collaborations with the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development and the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union had also strengthened IPPTAR's position regionally.
