High-Level Exchanges Drive Growing China-Malaysia Cooperation - Ambassador

KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 (Bernama) -- China and Malaysia are seeing growing cooperation in trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges as the two countries mark the 52nd anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, China's Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing said.

He said bilateral trade reached US$200 billion last year, while 4.77 million Chinese nationals visited Malaysia, underscoring the growing depth of ties between the two countries.

The ambassador said 2025 witnessed the highest frequency of high-level exchanges in the history of China-Malaysia relations.

In April 2025, President Xi Jinping made his second state visit to Malaysia, 12 years after his first visit to the country. Premier Li Qiang also visited Malaysia twice last year, while Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim travelled to China during the same period.

The exchanges marked a milestone in bilateral relations and ushered in a new chapter in building a high-level strategic China-Malaysia community with a shared future, he said.

"Hand in hand, we will bring more benefits to the people of both countries and safeguard our region as a place of continued stability and progress," he told reporters during the Embassy of China's Open Day held in conjunction with the 52nd anniversary of China-Malaysia diplomatic relations here on Thursday.

Ouyang said bilateral cooperation continues to expand across economic and people-to-people sectors.

"Relations between China and Malaysia are very good in economic, investment as well as people-to-people exchanges. The ties will continue to progress smoothly this year," he said.

Ouyang said China would continue to work closely with Malaysia to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries.

The ambassador also reaffirmed the Embassy of China's commitment to promoting youth exchanges and mutual learning between the two countries.

He said the passion, ambition, and dedication of young people would help shape a brighter shared future for China, Malaysia and the wider region.

During the embassy's open day, visitors had the opportunity to experience various aspects of Chinese culture, including traditional attire from different dynasties, bamboo weaving, and kite-making activities.
