Parliamentary Division participates in IPU seminar on digital accessibility in the European Parliament

Manama, Jun. 13 (BNA): A delegation from the Parliamentary Division participated in a virtual seminar organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) on digital accessibility in the European Parliament.
The seminar reviewed the European Parliament's experience and achievements in digital accessibility across its mobile applications, internal networks, website, and electronic documents.
The Parliamentary Division delegation included MP Hassan Ibrahim Hassan and a number of staff members from the General Secretariats of the Shura Council and the Council of Representatives.
The seminar addressed a number of specialised topics related to digital accessibility as a fundamental right that should be prioritised within parliamentary institutions. It reviewed the European Parliament's experience in providing inclusive digital services through websites, smart applications, internal networks, and digital documents.
The seminar also highlighted the key principles of digital accessibility and the legislative framework governing the field, including the Web Accessibility Directive and the European Accessibility Act.
Participants were briefed on the European Parliament's strategy for promoting digital accessibility, as well as the efforts of the Digital Accessibility Competence Centre, which works with users with disabilities to incorporate accessibility requirements into digital systems and services. The seminar also reviewed quality assurance mechanisms, compliance reporting, and best practices in developing inclusive digital services.
