MUHAMMADIYAH CALLS FOR THOROUGH INVESTIGATION OF BOMBINGS
Yogyakarta, Indonesia, July 18 (ANTARA) - Muhammadiyah chairman Din Syamsuddin has called on security officials to thoroughly and seriously investigate Friday's bombings of the JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton hotels.
"Security officials should investigate the case thoroughly and disclose the mastermind behind it," Din Syamsuddin said here on Saturday.
According to Syamsuddin, the bombings of the two hotels in Jakarta on Friday were relatively easy to investigate because the man, suspected to be the bomber, stayed in room 1808 of the Marriott and he might have assembled the bomb inside his room.
"We hope the preliminary findings can be used by the security officials as clues to solve the case completely because I believe they understand what I mean," Din Syamsuddin said.
He also said Muhammadiyah as an Islamic organization did not want the bombing incident to be linked with religion, especially Islam.
"No party should link Friday's bombings to Islam. Terror is terror, crime is crime. If it is linked to Islam, it will certainly hurt the feelings of Muslims," Din Syamsuddin said.
He also said the bombings should not be linked to the recent presidential election either because all parties, especially the political elite, should show their statesmanship and be able to quieten the people.
"All parties have to be able to maintain national peace, security, and harmony. We are actually shocked by the bombings on Friday because our country has been peaceful, secure and its people living in harmony for several years," he said.
He said, all parties should show wisdom and maintain security and harmony in the country.
"In so doing, there will be no accusation and faultfinding between one party and the other in responding the bombing terror," Din Syamsuddin said.
He added that Muhammadiyah had also offered its deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims. ***
