CHILDREN MUST BE TAUGHT TERRORISM IS CRIME :MINISTER
Jakarta, July 18 (ANTARA) - Women Empowerment Minister Meutia Hatta has asked parents, teachers and religious figures to inculcate children with the notion that terrorism is a crime, something they must never do or get involved in.
"From now on mothers, fathers and religious figures should inculcate children with the notion that terrorism is a crime against humanity," the minister said here on Saturday after opening an exhibition of Indonesian creative products on the occasion of National Children's Day.
Meutia said further terrorism or suicide bombing was unacceptable committed for whatever reason viewed from the legal or religious stanpoint.
This was because the victims of such acts were usually innocent people as had happened in the JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton hotel bombings on Friday (July 17), she said.
In addition, parents should also adopt a strict attitude and instill discipline in their children while forbidding them to see movies that show violence, commercialization of sex and other negative things.
The minister said, showing strict attitude to children should not always be followed by sanctions or violence but with a sense of affection and attention instead.
Thus, despite the challenges coming from outside, such as the progress of information technology that had a great impact on children nowadays, but parents had apply preventive ways so that children would grow up properly.
"It is something that must be changed in education from the pattern of childcare in our country," she said.
On Friday (July 17) morning, two bomb explosions occurred at 07.45 WIB in the Ritz Carlton Hotel followed by another bomb explosion at 07.47 WIB in the JW Marriot Hotel, killing at least nine people and injuring 52 others.
Ritz-Carlton Hotel was scheduled to accommodate 90 members of the Manchester United (MU) football club of Britain, who were expected to arrive in Jakarta on Saturday evening (July 18), but their visit to Jakarta was reportedly canceled to the disappointment of many of their fans. ***
