Winter Asian Games volunteer centres

Almaty, July 19 2009, Khabar - Two years are left before the Winter Asian Games and volunteer centres of the Winter Asian Games have already opened in both Almaty and Astana. Volunteers are being received there to be involved in medical, hotel and transport services, as well as in work with sports delegations and tourism. Applications will be received by the end of this year. Apart from Almaty residents, people from regions and even abroad can apply for becoming the volunteers of the multi-sport event. It is being suggested that over two thousand volunteers will be working in Almaty. The volunteer centre opened one month ago and about 200 applications have already been submitted by students, teachers, and even civil service agents.

- In my opinion, participating in the Asiad’s work is a great opportunity to practice my English speaking skills. I would like to work as an interpreter and help foreign guests. In addition to this, such events provide a good chance of testing one’s abilities and meeting new people. You are right in the centre of activities as the Asian games are believed to be the main event of 2011.

The selection criteria include foreign language skills and such qualities as responsibility, punctuality and creativity. Volunteers will undergo an interview and special training before the winter event. They will have to learn the history of Kazakhstan and Almaty. A special uniform will be prepared for each team of volunteers. Despite the fact that volunteers will be working free of charge they will, however, be presented with certificates and letters of gratitude.
